Which States Search Plastic Surgery the Most?

If there’s such a concept as a wrinkle in time, it’s not on Nov. 15, because that is National Botox Day, when every crease gets a little smoother and every expression gets little less expressive. (National Botox Day is traditionally the third Wednesday in November.)

To celebrate National Botox Day, BetCarolina.com took a break from covering the countdown to North Carolina sports betting to rank the 50 states plus the District of Columbia – where politicians have been known to get the occasional touch-ups – based on how interested each is in plastic surgery. This can range from bigger breasts to smaller noses to barely noticeable crow’s feet.

Botox isn’t really plastic surgery, because there’s neither plastic nor surgery, but it should be done by a medical professional and not an amateur who has been mixing botulism toxins (emphasis on the toxin part) in the home lab.

Using Google Trends, BetCarolina.com – your source for NC sports betting apps - found each state’s average RSV (relative search volume) for the “botox,” “rhinoplasty,” “liposuction,” “lip fillers,” “abdominoplasty,” and “breast augmentation” between dates 11/8/2022 – 11/8/2023 and ranked them accordingly. Then BetCarolina.com ranked each procedure’s popularity within North Carolina using Google Trends interest ranking from 11/8/2022 – 11/8/2023.

Here are the results:

Most Searched Plastic Surgeries in North Carolina

Procedure Search Volume
Botox 83
Abdominoplasty 27
Rhinoplasty 23
Breast Augmentation 20
Lip fillers 6

Inside the Numbers

As one might expect, the top states for plastic surgery are Florida and California. In Florida it’s because everyone over 80 wants to look 50. In California it’s because everyone over 50 wants to look 20. The success rate in either place is not too high.

Carolinians appear to have a more sensible approach to the medical adjustment of their body parts and skin: North Carolina ranked 36th when it comes to plastic surgery interest – in between Missouri and Michigan. Like in many polls, there is no rhyme or reason to red state or blue state. And Mormons seem to be just as interested in plastic surgery as Evangelicals, Jews or Southern Baptists. Just a little pinch in the forehead, Methuselah, and you can look 800 again.

In 2022, Statista says that nearly 4 million botox procedures were performed in the U.S., more than double the number of the next four non-surgical procedures combined (skin treatments such as chemical peels, dermal fillers to puff out those lips or cheeks, body contouring to shape those curves, and hair removal to, you know). Other medical sources have the annual number of procedures millions higher – and that’s because botox isn’t just for foreheads anymore. It’s also used to treat migraines, foot pain, overactive bladders or poorly functioning pyloric sphincters (they’re in the stomach, don’t be gross).

It’s no wonder that with so many uses, many of which require a person to get a needle filled with poison stuck in their face, that Botox now has its own day. In addition to having the best North Carolina sportsbook promos, BetCarolina.com occasionally does stories of cultural interest like this.
